TDZK: Fleets is an online multiplayer space warfare strategy game, where players control vast armadas of warships vying for control of the galaxy. Take systems and plunder their resources to fuel your war machine. Research new technologies to unlock additional ships, weaponry, and sensor technology. Establish outposts and lay down defenses. Build massive battlecruisers and dreadnaughts to overwhelm your opponents with sheer firepower, or amass squadrons of interceptors and frigates to achieve victory through superior numbers. The choice is yours!
TDZK was one big universe. Everyone joined the same game, regardless of whether they started on day one, or one day before the end of a round. Fleets will work a little differently. When you log into Fleets, you’ll be presented with a list of available zones that you can join. These are all separate games with separate maps, and in some cases running under different rules. You can join as many or as few zones as you wish at a time. Each zone has a registration period before it starts when you can sign up, and most zones will have a ‘late start’ period when you can join a game that’s already in progress.
TDZK: Fleets will combine the deep strategic gameplay of 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) map-based strategy games with the challenge of playing in a massively multiplayer environment. Fleets will support zones with tens of thousands of players at once, and the best part is it’s free to play!
The game is still on track for launching in the first half of 2010, and expect to begin alpha testing sometime around the new year.
