AQ Guide: A Beginner's Guide to Stats
By Icemaster Yeti
How do I get stats?
You accumulate 5 stat points per level – if you are level 5, you have 25 stat points to use. Level 30, 150 stat points to use, level 60, 300 stat points, and so on. The highest level is L130, at which point you'll have 650 stat points. You train stat points with the Stat Trainers. To get there, click on Twilly standing right in the middle of the screen when you first log in. Click on "Hello". Then select "Visit the Stat Trainers".
An alternative is if you have an Estate - you can install your own Melee or Magic stat trainer. For details of Estates, see here: Estate System Guide
How do I UNTRAIN stats - and why would I??
"Why would I?" - because often when we begin playing the game, we don't know how stats work, and put an equal amount in all stats. This isn't necessary for most character "builds" .. warriors don't need INT or CHA, mages don't need STR or CHA, and hybrids usually want to concentrate on STR/INT/DEX. So how do we get rid of them? We die! Die in battle, and when you get taken to meet death. Instead of talking to him, click on the hourglass down near the "tail" of his robes. Here's a link to the " Death's Domain" quest, with details of what to do (you want to meet Sir Pwnsalot - lose to him and he'll untrain 5 stat points from the selected stat). Once you've done that, those 5 points will be able to be put into a different stat (but you won't get your original money back). Once you've found Sir Pwnsalot in the above way, AND if you are a Guardian/X-guardian, you can also access Sir Pwnsalot through the Guardian Tower teleporter, saving you from having to go through the quest again.
As above, If you have an Estate, your trainer can also UNTRAIN your stats for you.
The Stats
There are 6 stats in the game of Adventure quest – Strength (STR), Intelligence (INT), Dexterity (DEX), Endurance (END), Charisma (CHA) and Luck (LUK). All of these stats, either singly or in combination with one or two of the other stats, help your character win battles more easily.
The Stat Trainers
There are 3 trainers who will train your stats, and the Combat Practice trainer. Don't worry about him, he's just a Drakel who'll help you test out your items. The 3 trainers are Sir Lanceler, Neberon the Mage, and Grimweld the warrior. Sir Lanceler will train any of your stats, up to a maximum of 75. Neberon the Mage will train your INT, CHA and LUK up to a maximum of 200. Grimweld the Warrior will train your STR, DEX and END up to a maximum of 200 as well.
Apparently, Grimweld or Neberon are the best for training against, as Sir Lanceler's weapon is a pretty good one, and can be painful for the lower leveled player to defend against
Stat Training Costs
To go from 0 to 5 in a stat is free, but from then on it costs you gold to raise your stat further. Training Gold costs are now 20% less expensive. (Cheaper!) The cost formula is now = stat * stat * 0.80 So if you are on 50 points and train, it will be 50x50, x 0.8 .. or 2000 gold, instead of the 2500 it originally would have cost. Yay!
You can now pay with Z-tokens, at a rate of 20% of the gold cost - eg, if the gold cost to train to the next level is 28,800, the Z-token cost would be 1,444. Given that gold is MUCH easier to get than Z-tokens (unless you purchase them), I'd recommend just using gold.
Detailed Stat Info
STRENGTH – STR affects melee and ranged attacks. It provides a random damage bonus for melee weapons. In combination with DEX, it provides a random damage bonus for ranged weapons. And in combination with DEX and LUK, it increases your chance to hit the monster you are attacking with a melee weapon – your ‘Bonus to Hit’ (BtH). (see the formulas below for how to work out the random damage bonus and BtH for all types of attacks)
DEXTERITY – DEX affects the BtH of all types of attacks (melee, ranged and magic). In combination with STR, it provides a random damage bonus for ranged weapons. It also (with LUK) increases your chance to block attacks by monsters. And the more DEX you have, the better chance you have of finding out whether a potion chest is trapped, allowing you to "de-trap" it and get potions instead of an explosion!
Blocking bonus for DEX and LUK combined: DEX/10 + LUK/20
INTELLIGENCE – INT affects your magic attacks. It provides a random damage bonus for magic spells and weapons. In combination with DEX and LUK, it increases you magic bonus to hit (for both spells and magic weapons). It ALSO increases your total MP.
ENDURANCE – END is the simplest stat. The higher your END, the more HP you have – it’ll take longer to kill you than if you had 0 END.
