Broken Reality Online is a blend between tactical warfare and a Role Play-ing Game. Every player in BRO has a character, and the players organize themselves into groups called "factions", whom struggle against one another for the control of the land. choose one of the three Races: The technocratic Prometheans,The savage Mythic, or the horrid The Unliving.in BRO, the player fight for control of the lands using weapons, special abilities, and devices, represented in the game as Action Cards.

Cards are crafted by players using Psycrystals, which are mined from the lands; these crystals can be sold for energy,the game's currency. Energy is used to buy cards from other players, buy blueprints for making new cards and also to increase a faction's influence in the land under they control.
